Notes From the Trail: What PCT Hikers Say About Ashland

Emilie Lecomte - PCT2025 - from France sharing her experience in Ashland and at The Columbia Hotel.

Pacific Crest Trail Reviews from hikers and visitors to Ashland and The Columbia Hotel

The PCT community runs on word of mouth. Before any hiker books a stay in Ashland, they ask the trail.

They check r/PacificCrestTrail, the PCT Class of 2025 Facebook group, and HikerFeed. They read journals on The Trek. They ask the last person they leapfrogged in the Sierras.

What follows are real words from real hikers who stopped at The Columbia Hotel on their way to Canada. Shared with permission. Trail names used with pride.

Perfect place to stay in Ashland! Location is right in the center of everything. I was hiking the PCT, got a bunk in a shared room, hostel style, with other hikers. The staff were friendly and attentive, place was clean, hip decor, would highly recommend!

The friendliest staff, accomodating to PCT hikers, and a unique and chill place to rest. The bunks were extra spacious and the mattresses extremely comfortable. I really enjoyed all the complimentary amenities. Highly recommend!

PCT Hikers love Ashland and The Columbia Hotel!

“My Stay at the Columbia in Ashland was amazing. I would highly recommend it if you in Ashland. Made very welcome and the staff are so helpful. Can’t fault it in any way.
I arrived from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in need of doing laundry, having a shower and a much needed rest , all this and more was provided!”

What the PCT Community Says About Ashland

Beyond the hotel reviews, Ashland as a town carries serious weight in the PCT hiker community. According to multiple years of PCT survey data compiled by Halfway Anywhere, Ashland is consistently ranked the #1 favorite resupply town in Oregon and the #3 favorite PCT town overall…trailing only Idyllwild (CA) and Bishop (CA).

Among NOBO thru-hikers who just crossed into Oregon, Ashland's combination of full resupply, good food, theater, and genuine hiker hospitality makes it a two-zero town for many who planned a one-zero stop.

We take that reputation seriously. The Columbia Hotel's job is to make sure that when hikers share their Ashland experience, in forums, in journals, to their trail family with The Columbia Hotel is part of the story they tell.

“10/10 stay. Super comfortable beds, friendly staff, hiker friendly and in the perfect spot downtown.” - Hulk FarOut App - 8/2/25

Everything I needed as a thru-hiker, and close to everything in town—post office, restaurants, rogue valley runners across the street. Cheap drinks at the front desk. Stay here," posted on September 18, 2024.
