PCT Hiker FAQs - The Columbia Hotel, Ashland Oregon

  • The Columbia Hotel is located at 262½ E Main Street in downtown Ashland, Oregon. It sits approximately 14 miles from the PCT trailhead near the Mount Ashland area (the trail crossing near I-5 exit 6). Ashland is approximately PCT mile 1,718.7 northbound, the first real town stop in Oregon for NOBO hikers.

  • Yes. From June through October, The Columbia Hotel converts its bunk rooms to hostel-style by-the-bed accommodations exclusively for PCT hikers. These are private bunk rooms, not shared dorms, that sleep 4. Book by the bed or take the whole room. Beds fill up during peak NOBO season (late July and August), so contact us in advance.

  • The easiest and safest way is our dedicated PCT shuttle, run in partnership with Ashland Mountain Adventures. The shuttle picks up from the PCT trailhead daily (see schedule below) and drops off at The Columbia Hotel. Cost is $5 one way - gear included, no I-5 hitching required. Many hikers also successfully hitchhike from the trailhead area (hitchhiking is legal in Oregon). Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) costs approximately $20–30 from the trailhead.

  • Trail to Ashland pickup: daily from PCT trailhead coordinates (42°03'54.4"N 122°36'08.7"W). Ashland to Trail departure: from The Columbia Hotel back parking lot — 11:30 AM weekdays and 10:30 AM weekends in July and September; 10:30 AM daily in August. Cost: $5 one way, no charge for backpacks. Book at the front desk or call ahead.

  • Yes. We accept USPS and UPS packages for PCT hikers. Please contact us in advance so we know your package is coming and can hold it for you. Address your box: [Your Name] PCT Hiker (ETA: MM/DD/YYYY) c/o The Columbia Hotel, 262½ E Main Street, Ashland, OR 97520.

  • Yes. Our hiker box is in the lobby. Leave gear, food, or supplies you no longer need, and take anything useful from what previous hikers have left. Common finds: fuel canisters, food, gaiters, first aid supplies, and the occasional mystery snack.

  • Yes. Free laundry, washer and dryer is available for PCT hiker guests. Detergent is provided. Most hikers do laundry on arrival in the evenings after housekeeping is done so everything has time to dry before their next morning departure.

  • Yes there is a mini kitchen on site for guests of The Columbia Hotel. This includes a microwave, fridge, toaster oven, single hot plate and a toaster. The space is small but mighty!

  • Ashland is a full-service resupply town. No need to mail a box here — everything is available locally. Shop 'n Kart (585 Siskiyou Blvd) is the most affordable for bulk snacks and fresh food. Natural Grocers carries supplements and vegan options. Dollar Tree is hikers' secret weapon for cheap ramen, snacks, and trail food.   • Bi-Mart, Dollar Tree, Grocery Outlet is the cheapest stop for resupply food. For hot meals, Ruby’s offers generous portions at fair prices. Morning Glory does a famous brunch. Sammich (a sandwich shop) is beloved by PCT hikers for value and calories. The Columbia Hotel has free coffee, tea, fruit and granola bars in the lobby every morning.

  • Yes. Pack storage is available for PCT hotel guests. Leave your gear at the hotel in a locker and explore Ashland without 40 lbs on your back. Main Street, Lithia Park, and OSF are all walkable from The Columbia Hotel.

  • Both. During PCT Season, bunk rooms are available by the bed (hostel-style) for the most affordable option. We also have private king and queen rooms if you want your own space for a true zero day recovery. Private rooms book up fast so please contact us in advance during peak season.

  • Yes! The Columbia Hotel is pet-friendly. Trail dogs are welcome. Let us know when you book so we can place you in a pet-friendly room.

  • Absolutely. Many hikers use Ashland as their Oregon hub to mail boxes forward to Crater Lake (Mazama Village), Shelter Cove, Timberline Lodge, and Washington stops.   • Yes! Well we really like to save the trees, if you need assistance with printing permits or travel forms please let us know at the front desk.
